Accessories
If you want to become a serious collector or just want to preserve a valuable card, familiarizing yourself with trading card accessories is a good idea. There are many products out there that can make the collecting easier, safer and lot more convenient.
Supplies
Whether you collect cards for sentimental value or monetary value, protecting your cards from damage is essential. How you pick to protect your cards is up to you.
- Storage Boxes – This is the most basic form of protection. A storage box is basically just a box built to hold cards. It’s not someplace you’d want to store a card that has value. Wear and tear is commonplace in storage boxes.
- Card Cases – Usually made of plastic, card cases are a step up from storage boxes. However, storing cards of value within a card case is still not the safest alternative. Card cases are best used for transportation or cards with limited value.
- Albums – When you start getting serious about card collecting, getting an album to store your cards is oftentimes one of the first steps. Cards are stored within protective pages, although the cards are still susceptible to damage.
- Sleeves – Also sometimes referred to as toploaders, sleeves are good way to protect your cards. The best kind of sleeve to get is a sturdy one made of hard plastic. If stored correctly and away from elements, sleeves can protect cards flawlessly.
- Card Displays – If you want top of the line protection, go with card diplays. They are made of hard plastic (sometimes even glass), and the cards are sealed in for optimal protection. And as the name suggests, it’s also a great way to display your cards.
Software
To keep track of your inventory or to look up prices easier, there are a number of software programs you can download onto your computer. If you have a big collection of cards, it’s important to look into cataloging your cards in a card tracking software.
Many products out there can do the job. There are even a couple of free alternatives available. Here are some that I’ve personally use and can recommend:
