Beckett is perhaps the biggest name in the industry. Their grading service is superb and very reputable. If you have a card graded by them, you can have complete confidence that they will do a good job.

Card Trade readers have named Beckett Grading Service as the best in the industry for six years in a row.

The cost of their service runs from $6 to $25 per card. However, if you are part of their collector’s club, the price can be as low as $2 per card.

When you think of older sports trading cards, the first sport that comes to mind is baseball. However, football cards of the 1950′s are some of the highest quality cards ever produced. They are magnificent looking and are rising in value every year. Here are some of my favorites:

Doak Walker
This card was created in 1950 and is one of the earliest Doak Walker cards. It’s a great looking card and it’s value has risen almost to almost double of what it was only ten years ago.

Otto Graham
Graham is one of the best quarterbacks of all-time and this is one of his most valuable cards. It’s stunning colors have survived since it’s 1951 release. A mint condition card can fetch a very high asking price.

Norm Van Brocklin
This Van Brocklin card of him on the Los Angeles Rams was debuted in 1953. It’s a very popular card of the era and is looked upon as the best Van Brocklin card ever produced.

One aspect of boxing cards that is overlooked is the value of the rookie cards. In other sports, rookie cards are always the most sought after type of cards. In boxing, a rookie card is sometimes forgotten about and overlooked. Here are some boxing rookie cards that can be had for a relatively small amount of money that could be a great gift or even a great investment:

Lennox Lewis
Lewis is an underrated talent whose true greatness won’t be understood until years down the line. He’s not a big name in the boxing collecting world, so you can get quality cards of his for under their eventual value.

Oscar De La Hoya
Not only is he still boxing, but his business career is setup so that he’ll be a force in the boxing industry long after he retires. His name and associated value should continue to grow for years. Above is a very nice rookie card of his that was produced in 1992.

Roberto Duran
Duran has a dedicated fan base that after all these years. His place in history is still up for debate, but a card such as this rookie card of his should only go up in value as the years go on.

I oftentimes get asked what cards I most want to add to my collection. It’s tough to answer that question, but all the cards would be older baseball cards. Early baseball cards will always have a place in my heart as the best cards ever developed. Here’s a look at my top three:

#1

Honus Wagner
What is there to say about this card? This is the Holy Grail of all sports cards. If I ever win the lottery, this card would be mine.

#2

Shoeless Joe Jackson
This is something about this card that draws me to it. It’s not one of the most valuable cards of all-time, but it’s at the top of my personal list of favorite cards.

#3

Babe Ruth
Of all the Babe Ruth cards, this is the one I’d pick to have. It’s a rather large card (6″ X 9″) that has great value. Less than a handful are known to exist to this day.

There were a lot of interesting prospects taken in the draft this year. Here are the cards that I would target.

1. Andrea Bargnani – Being the first Italian player of note in the NBA, Bargnani is going to open up the league to a whole new market. Card collectors can cash in on that if they can pull the most lucrative of his rookie cards. He’s going to Toronto and should see playing time right away.

2. Adam Morrison – Hand-picked by Michael Jordan, Morrison is perhaps the biggest name in the draft. He can score and will have plenty of opportunities to do so in Charlotte. His current level of fame combined with his scoring ability and the presence of MJ will drive the market up on his cards.

3. Brandon Roy – Roy is a do it all guard going to basketball starved Portland. If he can stay healthy and get the playing time, he’s one of the front runners as far as the Rookie of the Year award goes. He’s one of the few players in this draft with superstar potential.

4. Rudy Gay – Along with Roy, Gay has the highest ceiling of anyone in the draft. He’s shown flashes of brilliance and could easily end up as the greatest player in the draft. In Memphis, Gay should get plenty of chances to show what he’s got.

5. Tyrus Thomas – Thomas is a guy who will find himself on SportsCenter on almost a nightly basis once he gets the playing time. He’s very athletic and is playing in a big market (Chicago). He’s sure to have a huge fan base in a few years.

Each year in the NBA, there are players who pop out of nowhere to become stars. This year is no different. Here’s a list of players who could see their cards’ value sky rocket over the course of the season:

1. Kevin Martin – Martin is off to an outstanding start with the Sacramento Kings. He’s a scorer who is showing no signs of slowing down. He has a green light to shoot as much as he wants and isn’t bashful in doing so. Right now, it appears as if he could be an All-Star.

2. Carmelo Anthony – Anthony has taken the next step and is now one of the best players in the game. He can score and this year he’s even passing and rebounding the ball more than ever. He’s catching up to LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, and could be a super star in the not to distant future.

3. Deron Williams – With the Jazz off to a fantastic start, Williams is getting a lot of pub. Last year, Chris Paul was getting all the attention. This season, Williams has closed the gap and is looking like an All-Star in the making.

4. Carlos Boozer – Deron Williams’ teammate is having an MVP type season so far. In a stacked Western Conference, he’s playing at perhaps the highest level of any bigman. If Boozer can keep it up, look for the value of his cards to rise dramatically.

5. Dwight Howard – In the Eastern Conference, no bigman is having a season comparable to Howard. Although still very young, Howard is a monster in the paint on both sides of the court. He could very well end up as the next great bigman in the NBA.

Here are some players that you might want to sell high on. They have nowhere to go but down and their cards will soon come crashing back down to earth.

1. Chris Webber – Webber’s days as a force in this league are over. His knees are shot and he’s on a team where he doesn’t get the ball as much as he needs to. Also, his coach is losing confidence in him and Webber is losing confidence in himself.

2. Shaquille O’Neal – Yes, Shaq is coming off of a championship. However, his time as a star in the league is coming to an end. Now is a good time to sell or trade your Shaq cards as the value will perhaps never be any higher.

3. Jason Kidd – While Kidd is still a very good player, he has nowhere to go but down now. He’s going to be in New Jersey for the foreseeable future and they don’t have the personnel to be championship contenders.

4. Amare Stoudemire – Stoudemire was one of the hottest names in the industry not too long ago, but his slow recovery from knee surgery has really hurt his stock. There are rumbling that he may never return to his previous levels. If you believe that, his cards will surely suffer as that become more obvious.

5. Ben Wallace – The biggest story of the offseason was Wallace signing with the Bulls. However, at this point the move looks like a bust. Wallace is pouting and Chicago is losing. If it doesn’t turn around soon, Wallace’s value will fall off.
