Price Guides
“How much is my card worth?”
That is the question I get the most. As an avid collector, I spend a good portion of my days looking up prices. Whether I’m checking a price for the first time or re-checking a price to see if there has been a change, there are many different resources available that I put to use.
Tuff Stuff is a great free resource that will give you a good idea of how much a card is worth. Simply register at their site and you can find the prices of many items — free!
Another great free resource is, surprisingly enough, eBay. At eBay, you can search an find out what cards are being sold for. Many times, this is actually the best way to see the real life value of a card. Many times you will see cards sold for much higher or much lower than their listed book values.
The leading name in the industry and the place where collectors get their final price is Beckett. They have magazines, books and some online resouces with accurate information. Their prices are oftentimes looked at as the final say in the sports trading card business.
One thing to remember, however, is that you must have a good idea on the grade of your card. Whether you or not you use a pro grading service, you want to have an idea of the quality of your card as that can drastically alter the value.
